What Is Topical Finasteride + Minoxidil?
This is a compounded scalp preparation containing both finasteride and minoxidil. Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor; minoxidil is a separate active ingredient used in topical hair-loss products. FDA approval of oral finasteride or of a separate topical minoxidil product does not apply to this combination. Its formulation and instructions depend on an individual prescription; do not substitute directions from either standalone product.
Medication details
Both ingredients have distinct safety considerations. Topical finasteride can be absorbed systemically, so topical use does not eliminate systemic adverse effects. Minoxidil can irritate the scalp and may cause unwanted hair outside the application area.
